Town Clerk News
May 2008 Town Clerk News from your Friendly Town Clerk!! In October, I had told you that the Town would be working on a town wide dog enumeration. Those plans have been put on hold for a couple of reasons: rumor has it that the County will take over the dog enumerating, and because South Bristol isn't scheduled for an enumeration until 2011. The Town Clerk's Association of Ontario County has a meeting in May with Darlys McDonough, Deputy County Administrator and Ed McGuigan, Director of Happy Tails Humane Society and we will surely be talking about this. A dog enumeration is just like a census, counting dogs and making sure they are licensed with the Town. New York State Law requires all dogs 4 months of age and older be licensed. Compliance is mandatory. The licensing fee is 12.50 for spayed/neutered dog and $20.50 for unspayed/unneutered. A rabies certificate is also required at the time of licensing, which you can get from your veterinarian. Speaking of rabies there will be rabies clinics at the following: * Saturday, June 21st at the Bristol Town Barns, 6740 County Road 32, 9am-Noon; * Saturday, August 16th at the Farmington Town Barns, Collett Road, (about 500 feet from County Road 8) 9am-Noon; * Saturday, September 20th at the Hurley Building, 205 Saltonstall Street, Canandaigua, 9am-Noon. There is a $5.00 cost, per pet, although no one is turned away for inability to pay. Dogs, cats and ferrets are welcome. A licensed veterinarian gives vaccines and tags and certificates are provided. Animals must be at least 3 months of age. The clinics are quite busy and there is often a significant line. Normally docile pets become anxious or agitated in this setting. For your pet's protection, it is very important for dogs to be on secure leashes and cats and ferrets are in secure crates. One animal per crate, please. If you have an unusually aggressive pet that is difficult to control, please notify the animal handler prior to entering into line with your animal. Adults should accompany children under the age of 18. If a cat, dog or ferret with an expired rabies vaccine is exposed to a rabid animal, it must be confined for six-months at the owner's expense. If anyone is interested in serving your community and becoming a Town Board member there will be an opening on the Town Board at the election this November. There are procedures to follow in order to get on the ballot and if you are interested please contact my office. South Bristol is very fortunate in that our Town Boards all work well together and is represented by committed and honorable residents. To see what is going on around Town, drop by a Town Board meeting, held the second Monday of every month at 7:00pm and/or a Planning Board meeting, held the third Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm. Just a note, relating to the above: The Town Board meeting minutes are included in this website, located under "Town News." If you would like to be added to my email list and receive the monthly minutes via email, email me at jhanley@southbristol.org. SAVE THE DATE!! Saturday, July 19th will be a celebration of the Town of South Bristol's 170th Anniversary! Stay tuned! That's all that I can think of right now.
